Donald Hertel, son of Elmer and Violet (Speidel) Hertel, grandson of Frederick F. and Lydia (Knittel) Hertel and great grandson of Friedrich and Christina (Neumueller) Hertel, who with the help of his father's memory, kept track of all the interments in this cemetery.

Johann "John" and his wife, Eva (Schock), opened their home for Lutheran services right after they moved to Corson County in 1917. This congregation became the Hope Lutheran Church.
Johann and Friedrich were brothers, sons of Jacob and Rosina (Kraenzler) Hertel, who died too young in 1886 and 1887, respectively. The Hertel families have generations of history in this church, and almost all those interred in this cemetery are related. Some who were originally buried here, have been moved to the Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery in McLaughlin, S.D.
