Meadow Hill is the name of the estate of the Lipscomb family and has been in the possession of this family since 1670. It is a historic cemetery. The patriarch of the family is Joel Lipscomb who came here from Hampshire, England and settled in Spotsylvania Co., VA. In 1936, the family burying ground was transcribed. There was only 1 tombstone marker that listed the people buried there and on the back of it are the names of other family members that have been buried elsewhere. Few dates provided from family records were from Miss Virgilia Lipscomb of Fredericksburg.
My son and I found this site with the help of local people. The house fell in back in the bad snow of 2010. This marker was found a little ways behind the remains of the house. It is in great shape and the writing on the front and back are readable. Many of the graves are unmarked. There are one or two that have field stone markers. The ground appears to have sunken in forming holes in a place or two. One hole is clearly the size of a body and appears to have sunken in or someone has tried to dig it out. It is overgrown with trees and vines with stickers. It's very hard to maneuver in there. It looks like it might have had a wooden fence at one time.
