Add PhotosThe cemetery plot, situated between two churches is now known as the "Village Green." The plot was cleared after 1900 (~1903) and the Highway to the East (now known as Slusser Road) was put through from the Main Road (now designated Route 5) to the Creek Road. Prior to this, the Cemetery joined the Presbyterian Church property on the East.
No gravestones are now visible. The graves were either removed to Hillside Cemetery (Angling Road, East Pembroke, NY) or were "laid below the surface," according to the wishes of the individual descendents. If no relatives were located, the graves were left intact.
The names listed as still buried at this cemetery are those recorded by Town of Pembroke Historians and are on file in the Pembroke, N.Y., Town Hall. The numbers given with each name reflect the following:
Column 1 (1st #): Footage from West limits to East Limits - highway
Column 2 (2nd #): Footage from South limits toward North limits
Only the locational information of each gravesite is recorded (no personal info, dates, etc.)
The euphemism "laid below the surface" is a polite way of saying the intact graves were paved over (Route 5) or submerged (below the Village Green).
