Mayne-Moseman Cemetery
Clarke County, Georgia, USA
"Driving directions: From the intersection of Lexington Road (Hwy. 78) and Gaines School Road, travel east on Lexington Road for 1.8 miles to 4965 Lexington Road (just before you reach Shoal Creek). The cemetery is located on north side of the road about 100 yards back in a wooded area at edge of a field and is reached by field pathway that runs 2/10 mile behind house. The cemetery is located in an 'island' of trees and bounded on all sides by cultivated fields. Watch out for snakes!
"This burial ground is quite old and seems to contain at least three sections consisting of approximately two acres which were set aside by Frances Mayne Thompson Dean in her 1922 will. The Mayne-Dean section is surrounded by a 4' to 5' high rock wall and well maintained. The Moseman cemetery at one time was surrounded by an iron fence. Fence posts and one or two sections of downed fence remain. According to Gordon 'Yogi' Collins, a Mayne and Moseman descendant, another even older burial ground can be found on the north side of these two plots. Tree stumps, downed trees and thick ground cover make the graves in this area very difficult to see."
