Entire cemetery has been photographed.
First burying ground of Samuel January family. Legend has it that Samuel stated that his cemetery was to be a place for burial of any indigent.
It is not know whom all is buried in this cemetery. The cemetery is old and had been neglected. It is now fenced and mowed but the tombstones are buried in ground, broken or missing. There is a mound in the back of the cemetery that once was a brick vault and two stone doors of unknown person/s.
It is thought that some persons here maybe from the first or second cholera epidemic of Maysville.
The cemetery is 210 feet by 87 feet - approximately one half acre. One quarter acre was owned by Samuel January and set aside as a burying ground. One quarter acre was owned by Benjamin Jacobs and was set aside as a burying ground per his will dated 29 Jan 1846. Thus it is the January - Jacobs Cemetery.
The names added were compiled by several person and given to Kentucky Gateway Museum Center in Maysville. Others came from markers. I have two unknown - Unknown and Anna Marie.
