Description from that transcription: "Seventeenth District, Wilson County, Tenn., three miles south of Norene, and west of Greenvale."
Also known as the "Hansberry Cemetery" to that family, buried here are earlier landowners and families of Daniel Trigg, William Word and T. J. Adams, in addition to Hansberrys and related Gentrys.
In 1817, a grant of 715 acres on Fall Creek was recorded (DBF, p 533) as being given Daniel Trigg, but he had transferred land in the same area to Roger Quarles in 1808. The 1830 Wilson County Tax List indicates Daniel Trigg was taxed that year (the year of his death) for 1200 acres in Captain Carlock's Company. By 1831, 118 acres on Fall Creek remained in his name, while William Word first appeared on the tax rolls with 470 acres on Fall Creek. Edward Hansberry arrived in Wilson County around 1857. Deed Book G2 records his purchase of 3 tracts of land from the estate of T. C. Word, whose wife Sarah, d. 1857, is buried here.
In addition to tombstones and monuments recorded, there are a dozen or so stones with no visible transcription, as well as "fifty or more graves not marked" (Mrs. Bouton).
The area in which T. J. Adams is buried gives evidence of two, walled, east-west oriented graves, though only his stone was found to be inscribed. Nearby are the graves of Samuel T Williams and Kitty Word Dillon.
As of 2013, this cemetery has been reclaimed from a briar patch and set to rights by the property owner. It is beautifully maintained, and the homeowner's parking space is shared with cemetery visitors.
