"John Emmett[Ennett] Harrison was one of the sons of Joseph E.[Ennett] Harrison and Esther Matilda Jenkins Harrison. His parents came to Washington County, Georgia, from Onslaw[Onslow] County, North Carolina in the early 1800s, settling in the Pleasant Hill Community. His paternal line goes back to the Benjamin Harrison that came to the colony of Virginia in the early 1600s from England. His maternal lineage goes back to Gov. John Jenkins of North Carolina in the 1680s, who also came to that colony from England in the mid 1600s.
His early church experiences were under the ministries of the Rev. Jordan Smith, as his parents[Rev. JOSEPH E. and Esther Harrison] were members of Limestone Church, which Rev. Smith organized about 1830 after leaving Jordan's Meeting House in Davisboro. Rev. Harrison's mother and father[Rev. JOSEPH E. and Esther Harrison] are buried in the old Limestone Cemetery, which is on property owned by Rev. [JOHN E.] Harrison's great, great grandson, Dr. Harold Harrison."
