This cemetery is officially called the Payton Cemetery and is listed as number 158 in the book of Elbert County Cemeteries published by the Elberton Historical Society June 1984.
This cemetery is also know as (AKA) as the Peyton Cemetery by the local residents because one gravestone has Payton spelled as Peyton.
Only 48 marked graves with head and footstones were found during a visit to the Payton Cemetery on 12 October 2013. The reason being that the Payton Cemetery was under fairly heavy underbrush.
Directions: Go southeast on Seymour Road. Turn right on the dirt road just past 1301 Seymour Rd either before or after the Peyton Farm mailbox. It's best to look at the google satellite map to see how and where you need to go to cemetery from there. The cemetery is located about a mile off the road – this dirt road does branch off a couple of times and I think you need to keep to the left or straight ahead. When you go this way to the cemetery it will be located just past the wooded area about 200 yards - you'll need to park your car just off the dirt road and walk up the hill about 100 yards to the wooded area where the big rock is located.
This cemetery was created by Larry W. Payton on 15 Oct 2012.
