The Powell Family Cemetery is located east of Bainbridge(Blackjack) on Old Whigham Road, Georgia Highway 312, about 100 yards east of the intersection with Long Road. The cemetery is located adjacent to Ben Long's house at 2905 Old Whigham Road. Gravestones are no longer there. They have been destroyed by someone. Some stones were large white markers. We don't know when or who destroyed the stones. An aerial photo, from 1934, that is on file at the Corps office in Chattahoochee, Florida office shows the cemetery. An aerial photograph on file with the UGA maps office from 1947 shows the cemetery with the stones clearly visable. Google Georgia Aerial Photographs and click mouse on link. Go to Decatur county for 1947 and you will find the cemetery at aus-1d-115.sid. This was the burial place of Powell, Swicord, Harried, Colvin, Braswell, Ritter, Glover and Daughtry families. If you have information as to names and dates that were buried there, please let me know. There were steel plaques that marked graves of Confederate Veterans per book called Cemeteries of Decatur County.
