Shelby City Cemetery African-American
Shelby City, Boyle County, Kentucky, USA
Over the past few years, over 240 fieldstone burials have been located and marked with PVC pipe, which has made it possible to visualize rows of burials. Now that the brush has been cleared and most of the cemetery can be mowed, our next task is to re-set and repair many of the stones that had fallen over, or have been damaged. Several have been done including Green and Maggie Caldwell, Maggie Carpenter, Lucinda and Alex Givens, Reed Givins, Bell Ross Kenley, Allen Motley, William Scott, and Jordan Wallace (new stone).
The entrance to the cemetery was originally on the north side, near the old L&N Tracks; hearses would come up present-day Johnson Lane, then called "Cemetery Road" or "Cemetery Lane." Givens Lane, now Short Acres Road, originally went through into Lincoln County.
