WHITTENBERGER CEMETERY
An old burial ground, now abandoned, was once on the old Jacob Whittenberger farm, also known as Century Farm, more recently known as the Michael Porter farm, and was known as the "Old Whittenberger Cemetery." It was located about two hundred feet northwest of the Akron sewer pumping building, north of SR-14 at the west edge of Akron, Henry Township, Fulton County, Indiana.
A part of the old iron fence and one marker are all that remain.
NOYER, Delta, 1890-1926
(this marker, the only one found by these compilers in 1975, was placed there by Sylvia Noyer
when she had a new marker place in the Akron Cemetery for Donald O. and Sarah Delta
Noyer)
Manitou Chapter DAR, Genealogical Survey, Fulton Co Ind Cemeteries, 1935, recorded the inscriptions recorded here.
Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 2, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (01 April 2006), gives the primary cemetery name as Whittenberger Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-25-9 (Jacob Whittenberger Farm / Century).
