The only remnants of the now-defunct Memorial Circle are its dedication plaque and this - the outer wall of a fountain, now filled in with dirt.

The single empty urn above is placed in memory of 1,559 people buried between 1883-1913 whose whereabouts are unknown. Interred in the surrounding columbarium wall are ceramic urns containing the ashes of people who passed away between 1913-1971 in state institutions, most as patients of Oregon State Hospital, and who went unclaimed by family. Within the 1896 brick building are empty metal urns preserved in the state of their public discovery in 2004.

This is the original Oregon Insane Asylum hospital building, built in 1883 and recently restored during the Oregon State Hospital replacement project. Now known as the Kirkbride building, it houses administrative offices as well as some patient treatment facilities.
