Add PhotosThere is no official name for this cemetery. Death records just refer to Reids Bend or Reid's Bend. Name for Find A Grave given by cemetery surveyors: Reid Sharp and Linda Reid.
This cemetery is not to be confused with Reid's Bend Burial Ground -- the private cemetery located near by and used by the descendants of James Reid Sr., a settler who came to Bastrop County from South Carolina via Tennessee and Mississippi about 1837. He was married to Rhoda Hutchison and had 11 children.
This cemetery is located on a shelf bank (first flood plain) on Reid's Bend river bend on the Colorado River just above the town of Bastrop. There is a large physical separation between the two Reid's Bend cemeteries.
The cemetery was used in the 1920's and 1930's and on land now owned by Texas Aggregates, Inc. The land is over grown and many markers hard to read. Only 7 graves can be found in the heavy brush but others might exisit. The cemetery may have been periodically flooded due to its distance to the river. It is possible, some graves may have washed away.
