Add PhotosThis cemetery is located at the foot of Clark Mountain Road in Lilesville, North Carolina. Carol Overpeck and other family members have been clearing the Poplin Moss Lowe Cemetery as well as recording and photographing gravestones.
Start at Forestville United Methodist Church, 5238 Vintage Rd,
Lilesville NC. Go north on Clark Mountain Road (NC Secondary Road 1744)
for 2.9 miles. Turn left on Dr Sorrell Rd (NC Secondary Road 1741). Go 0.5 miles. Cemetery sign will be on the left next to a road with a
barrier. The road leads to the cemetery, which Mr Poplin told us, was
on the side of the hill at the end of the road, but we were unable to
pass due to it being overgrown.
Also, I have been told that "James talked to a resident named Emma Clark. She gave him some detailed information about the gravesite. She said there were over 200 people buried there. There are only three "store-bought" markers and six river stone markers that were carved by Charles W Poplin (son of James Alexander Poplin and Mary Ellen Moss.) The six river stones are "Thomas Lowe," "Martha Lowe, wife of Nelson Lowe", "Moss," (an infant child) "Emma Poplin, dau James A Poplin" (died young) "Mrs. C. R. McInnis," and Daniel T Lowe - killed by lightening."
