This burial site is referenced to in a story published in the Middleboro Gazette on Friday, December 22, 1939 entitled "Burial of Poor called Disgrace".
This cemetery began burials about 1831 and ended burials about 1939. The graves were not marked. The site is completely overgrown.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as MID819.
This burial site is referenced to in the book "History of the town of Middleboro, MA" by Thomas Weston, as the "Poorhouse Cemetery". He describes this cemetery as "Poorhouse Cemetery is a small lot on the east side of the railroad track near Wood Street bridge and the town farm, used only as a pauper burying-ground, and contains about 30 graves with rough stones but no inscriptions. It was first used in 1831."
