Cemetery's east wall is located about 8' from the I-77 R/W boundary and fence but is not visible from the interstate. The cemetery is located halfway between mile markers 44 & 45 on the west side (south bound side). It is on the original Gladden acreage, now known as the "Lykes Tract" and is surrounded on all four sides by a 3' block wall - 35' x 50'.
Location is about 250'-280' feet north of the old S-20-20 roadway which was relocated one mile north when I-77 was constructed in the 1970s. (See adjacent map showing the new S-20-20 roadway and interchange, Exit 46. That road was formerly S-20-234, but re-named S-20-20.)
It has been suggested - and it's probably a true story - that the Interstate's design was altered in order to miss the cemetery. There is a long curve in the highway where it should have been straight. Additionally, there is a deep cut (40'-50') through the hillside at that point which just barely misses the nearest edge of the cemetery. The cemetery would have been destroyed otherwise.
There are 14 marked graves; approximately 21-22 graves in total. About 9 or 10 being small, unmarked, "field stones" - most of the 9-10 are probably infants or children due to the small size of the graves and locations. On the outside of the cemetery walls from the southwest corner to the north side, there also appears to be up to 20 unmarked stones which are possible slave graves. Or not.
