The cemetery is overgrown, but easily identifiable measuring about 56 by 93 meters (Plate 4). There is no fence enclosure. At least 10 east-west oriented depressions, one displaced concrete headstone and 13 fieldstone markers were noted (Table 3). The date of earliest known burial is 1881 but the latest is unknown. This cemetery was recorded in Huston's 1994 Archaeological Assessment and Survey of Fort Pickett, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, and Nottoway Counties. The cemetery is associated with a late 19th century farmstead located approximately 20 meters to the southwest. According to Wayne Stith, a descendant of the original owner, Asa Stroud Lambert purchased the property for $500 in 1867. Lambert, a Confederate veteran of the Brunswick Blues (Company I, 20th Virginia Infantry), died in 1881 and was buried in the cemetery. Lambert's grandson accidentally burned the house down and it was never rebuilt (Stith personal communication in Huston et al. 1994:76). The cemetery was located in Tract K-484 owned by Etta M. Rawlings et al. at the time of Camp Pickett's establishment in 1941 and is not marked as having been relocated on the 1944 Real Estate Property Map (see Table 1 and Figure 1). It is also not mentioned in Godburn's list of graves relocated to Butterwood Church (Godburn 1977: Appendix G). In 1994, the William and Mary Center for Archaeological Research assessed the historic site and cemetery for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and found them to be potentially eligible because of its association with a
known individual and contextual integrity (Huston et al. 1994:76). "
