PENVILLE
Originally the largest village in the township, Penville was settled by pioneer families Penfield, Ausman and Dale. The first Town Hall was built here in 1858, & the first Reeve was Robert Cross. Black's Primitive Methodist Church was built here in 1858. In 1871 the population was 130 & received its warrant in 1854.
Concession 4 / Lot 18
Circa 1835
A Heritage Community.

This cemetery has been INACTIVE for over 100 years.
The church, long unused, and the land it was on, was sold in the late 1800s and used for a time as a granary. It was torn down in the 1940s. A small fund for the upkeep of the cemetery is administered by a committee, under the jurisdiction of the Township
All known burials are herein recorded (18 interments). The existing stones that could be found were preserved and assembled into a cairn as shown in the photograph
It's possible that in the late 1880s, many of the remains were removed to nearby cemetaries at Mount Tegart and/or Saint John's Anglican Church
