Add PhotosThis cemetery is located on private land. Permission must be requested for entrance. For this reason I will only reveal that it is between Oil City and Vivian.
The cemetery is on property that was originally settled by F. M. Hobbs around 1870 where he constructed and operated a river boat landing at this location. It became dry when Clear Lake was drained as the last log jam was cleared to Red River. After the lake was drained he moved his family a few miles east to the Mt. Gilead area where he and the remainder of his descendants are buried. Leaving this family burial plot as testament to the past. The Hobbs family descendants still refer to this area as "The Lake Place".
This is an inactive cemetery, which has been damaged by livestock, over the years.
It is on private property and permission is required to visit it. From this location you can still see the water line where Clear Lake was before the water dropped after clearing the last log jam on Red River in 1872.
