Description of location: It's south of Benham. Go south on Benham Road until you get to 900 South. At 900 South, turn right (west). Go to Base Lane road, which is the first road to the left (south). Turn left (south) onto Base Lane. The old school is about a half-mile down the road (south), on the left side (east side) of the road.

The small cemetery is located behind the house (former school), about 100 yards through farm field. There are three stones under a large oak tree, and the area is over grown.
In the 1993 "Ripley County, Indiana, History; Vol. II" (published by Taylor Publishing Co.), Blackwell School was described as 3 miles south of Benham. It was reported (in 1993) that the school building had been made into a residence.
The cemetery is located in Brown Township behind the old Blackwell School House, on private property. By 2012, three stones remained. All were sandstone, and all were unreadable. Ripley County genealogist Violet E Toph reported that there were five graves at the small cemetery.
