COPIED FROM WPA RECORDS - ROLL 2863 CHICKASAW COUNTY, MS
It is a fact, probably known only to a few, that a small cemetery lies in the heart of the city of Okolona. It is situated about due north of the Confederate Monument, perhaps about where the old Ford Service Station is. Ten of the older citizens interred here were the late Mr. Kyle, father of the late Mr. Tolbot Kyle, Mollie Kyle and Mrs. Edgar Howell, now living; another, Mrs. Ann Joiner Munson, deceased, and who is buried about 6 miles from Okolona on a farm cleared by her husband, Louis Joiner Munson. There are others whose names could not be recalled. This cemetery must have been here nearly a hundred years ago. (Note: This was written during the Great Depression, in the 1930's and early 1940's)
NOTE:
Tolbot Kyle's parents were Wiley and Catherine Kyle. His first wife was Charlotte Munson. Louie Munson was her brother. Tolbot's second wife was Mary Catherine Holliday Kyle. Their daughter, Fannie Ella Kyle, married Edgar Howell.
Mollie Kyle, daughter of Talbot and Charlotte are buried in the Munson-Kyle-Howell Cemetery, east of Okolona, in Monroe County, Rt. 1, Okolona, Mississippi. This land was bought by Gaines Munson, father of Charlotte and Louis Munson, in the early 1840's from land agents who bought it from Indians.
Mrs. Edgar Howell is listed as daughter and grand-daughter of Wiley. I don't know if this error is in the files, or if there was a mistake by the copier.
Fannie Ella Kyle Howell's (Mrs. Edgar Howell) son, Paul Russell Howell, Sr., said that Wiley and Charlotte Kyle were buried in Okolona. Talbot Kyle's name is second on north side of the Confederate Monument, which is close to the site indicated.
Kyle relatives in Texas said that Wiley and Katherine Kyle are buried in Okolona. Mollie Kyle and Fannie E. Kyle Howell (died 1937. Wiley Kyle is thought to have died 1850. Catherine was living as late as 1854.
