The property, about 518 acres, was part of land acquired in 1747 by Dr. Michael Wallace. It ran along the Potomac Run and Abel Lake and Reservoir to Truslow Road . The original house, made of white logs, was one and a half stories. It burned down and was later rebuilt on the same foundation. The second house was two stories and had 13 small rooms. This too later burned down and was not rebuilt.
Dr Michael Wallace of " Ellerslie", a prominent local physician from Scotland, gave part of his land to his son John and he to his son Dr. John Hoe Wallace Jr. Michael Gordon Wallace inherited it from John and he and his wife Mary B. Hansford (grand child) lived there also. The Wallaces used their extensive lands for farming and ended up with about 12 farms leading off a now called Wallace Farm Lane. Ellerslie is about ¼ miles from Liberty Hall and has been restored.
The Cemetery is still there and is north west of the foundation site on the edge of the once garden. The site is overgrown (2001) with stones now largely crumbling and unreadable. Last burial date is 1926. Seven of the first John Wallaces' grand daughters are buried here, one grandson.
Liberty Hall Cemetery is located 2.2 miles north of Berea in Stafford Co., Virginia. From (Rt. 652) Truslow Rd, it is about 1.4 miles from Enon (Rt. 653), and .5 miles north on a private road near Wallace Farm Lane.
