"Sketch related to the Cathloic Church - page 106:
(With the building of a chapel - about 1832) there was immedaite necessity for a burial place, which was laid out and consecrated on ground just to the rear of the chapel, and extending up the alley at the head of Dorcas Street the entire width of the lot.
No doubt a contributory circumstance leading to the establishment of this, one of the oldest cemeteries of our town (replaced now by another nearby), was the prevalence of disease among the army (3000) of laborers on the canal.
Records may be found at Harrisburg or Latrobe. Among these would be the McGirk family of Ferguson Valley---, this being the burial place of several members of the family."
Through contact with Mr. John A. Rocco, Lay Leader, in 1977, it was learned that early records in the Diocese are very sparse for this Parish.
The number of graves in this cemetery is unknown since it is no longer there.
