ABANDONED CEMETERY
Name of Cemetery: Known as the Bellevue Cemetery (locally known as the Pioneer Cemetery)
County: Morrison
Township: Bellevue
Location: (exact) In the NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of section 21, township 39, range 32.
Ownership: Donated by George Muncy and Ermina Muncy his wife and Charles R. Rhoda and Carrie Rhoda his wife to Laura A. Ayer, James Lambert, John Lambert, Richard Lambert, Ernest L. Muncy, Ellsworth Lambert, James Borden, Peter B. McDougall, and E.S. Foote on October 11, 1909.
Dedicated:: Not dedicated.
Records: No records are known to have been kept.
This land was used as a burial ground since the 1850's. There was no cemetery in this locality at that time so the dead were just buried on this piece of land. It was privately owned and used publicly. It was not until the cemetery was abandoned that the land was surveyed and the cemetery platted by R.J. Batzer who now lives near Royalton, Minnesota. On October 11, 1909 the private owners of the land donated the land to nine joint owners. The deed is still in the names of the nine owners although most of them are now dead.
Condition of cemetery: Poor. A barbed wire fence surrounds the cemetery in order to keep the cattle out but no other care is given the cemetery.
Number of burials: There were a great number of burials at one time but most of them have been moved to the Riverside Cemetery in Royalton and several to the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
