This cemetery was named after Mat Williams. Mat Williams was the son of Joel T Williams (1822 - 1881) and Dolly Hart Williams (abt 1824-abt 1955). Joel Williams and Dolly Hart were married in 1849. Dolly Hart was the daughter of Stephen Hart and Sarah "Sally" Bradford.
In 1857, Joel married Dolly's cousin, Sabra Jane Hart (1834 - 1880), daughter of Peter Hart (1808 - 1884) and Nancy Minerva Sexton.
Peter Hart was a son of John Hart (Stephen Hart's brother) and Permelia Morgan. Permilia Morgan's sister Hannah Morgan and her husband Isaac Sexton were Nancy Menerva's parents.
It appears that the first person buried in this cemetery was Mary A. {Addie?} Williams who was the daughter of Mat Williams.
Mat Williams is listed by various names. His death certificate lists him as J. Matt Williams but the Census records have him as George, Mat, and Madison.
Mat Williams married Margaret Martin about 1882.
