No regular entrance to this cemetery except 34 degrees from this former community center. 800 feet across a creek on a ridge. Bldg north side C.B. Johnson Rd. 0.2 mi east of junction of Old Kentucky Road (hwy136)

Old Shady Grove Cemetery
White County, Tennessee
This cemetery is up in the woods about .2 miles. Standing on the side of the Shady Grove Methodist Church at the Church sign, look across the street to the right side of the old closed down school house for the opening in the fence. There is no longer a gate there. Go through the opening and follow the trail to the right angle into the woods.After you get into the tree part, veer left and walk till you cross creek. When you get across, go up the hill and you will see a fork along the path. Veer right at the fork and follow that path about 50 yards or more and you will see the cemetery. Its at the top of the hill. They have cut timber all along the back of the cemetery so you will see a clearing to your left when you get there. Hope this helps someone. Its really hard to find. We went in with a four wheeler and a machete. It is approximately 3 tenths of a mile from the Shady Grove Methodist Church. It is so far up in the woods it is not kept up any more. The briars are all over many graves and Mother Nature has worn away names off many of the limestone gravemarkers.Its in a sad state. I would say there are approximately 50-70 unmarked graves because of wear on the markers. I used shaving cream on many of the unreadable markers because the writing is wearing off and before long they will just be another unmarked grave. I only use that if part or all of the stone is unreadable.
