Research of Sharon United Methodist Church and Cemetery records, this Church is in Anderson County-Central, SC 29630

Sharon United Methodist Church,s establishment date is listed as 1873. That date is incorrect. 1873 is, indeed, the date that is on the granite church marker in front of the church; but that date has been incorrect for as long as the granite marker has been in place. I think the marker was erected in the late nineteen sixties, and I'm not sure why the date of 1873 was never corrected. The correct date of Sharon's establishment is ca. 1840. To my knowledge, the date of 1840 is recorded on one of the bronze plaques across the road on the gates to the cemetery. I am aware of this information because I was reared in that church, which was closed by the Conference of the SC United Methodist Church a few years ago. The stone gates and bronze plaques were erected in the early 1930's through the cemetery fund-raising efforts of my great grandmother, Mary Olivia (Newton) Evatt.
