Add PhotosThe Ostermeier/Stump Cemetery is in Section 30, and located on the south side of SR 52, between 500 and 550 West.
Only used by family members, the burying ground is marooned in a field and not easily accessible. But even in the growing season one gravemarker is tall enough to be seen above the corn. The small plot is bordered by a rusting iron picket fence, its filigree gate awry and choked with weeds.
German natives, Charles Ostermeier and his wife Catherine Stump Ostermeier were early settlers of Sugar Creek Township. In 1887 the land which included the burying ground was owned by their son, Charles.
Catherine's mother, Mrs. Stump, lived her last years on the Ostermeier homstead, and even though there is no stone with her name inscribed, most likely she is buried here too.
There is only one large stone and four small footstones that have been found. The four footstones read only:
Mother - Father - Infant - Henry.
No other data was available.
