The original property belonged to Thomas Lindley, Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson Lindley. He received this land grant from the Federal Government for service in the War of 1812, where he served in Georgetown, SC.
Anecdote: Family ledgend states that Betsy Lindley saw a strange light one evening and called her family out to see it. A beam of light was shining directly onto a rise in the field out from their cabin. She felt that it was a sign that she was going to die soon and asked to buried in that spot. Her family thought it was just a moonbeam. She died very soon after that and was buried in the very spot where the light had been. Hence the name "Moonfield".
There are at least 38 unmarked graves - many of them infants/children, but many can still be identified. Some families have erected recent markers with the permission of the land owner. There is a decorative wire fence around the site. A very steep dirt incline rises up to the cemetery. It is extremely secluded and cannot be located without direction.
