Mapping has just begun on the site. University of Kentucky archaeologists and volunteers are conducting research and tests to verify if speculation of the "Unmarked Mass Grave" actually being on this site is in fact truthful. It is the judgement of several that the likely choice is that the cemetery came into being, just behind the "Mass Grave", because the soldiers were already there. Proof may take a year or more, and involve excavation.
(Update: It now appears likely that the "Mass Grave" is in the rear of this cemetery. A 16 meter square about rear center of the cemetery shows physical signs matching an unmarked mass grave. The rest of the cemetery can be recognized by depressions and fieldstone markers, mixed with the 14 marked stones. This area has no stones of any kind in it, not even naturally occurring outcrops.)
Postings at this point are from a survey done in December 1976, and photos taken April 26, 2008. There are indications of a lot more unmarked single graves here (up to 250). Research is being done now to find names for the unmarked graves.
