A new sign was put up at the old gate entrance to the cemetery after much of the brush was cleared away from the grave headstones. This sign cannot be seen from the highway.

Walnut Grove Cemetery is very overgrown and has not seen any maintenance for decades. Brush and weeds are everywhere and large trees have fallen and covered several of the graves. There could be over a hundred graves here, but I could only find about 2 dozen stones and several were completely buried under debris. The cemetery is located on private land and is fenced to keep out cattle. The cemetery is big enough to hold a lot of graves.

Scattered graves and overturned monuments are common at Walnut Grove Cemetery. The dates and names are hard to read and many listings in this record may be in error.

A baby's grave is nestled among some larger stones. There is a burial in this cemetery that dates back to 1843 and this makes it one of the earliest cemeteries in Jasper County, Mo. See Hugh Rankin listing.
