This cemetery is on private property. Obtain permission from property owner before visiting this cemetery.
Directions:
Go west of the Canaan Church on Co Rd 375N to the T. Turn left and go south about ¼ mile where the road will turn right (west). Continue west to the T in the road, which is the intersection of Co Rd 325N and 700E. The cemetery is due west of this intersection near the west end of the cultivated field.
Condition: Extremely Poor
There are two or three stones in a field. Farmer is just barely farming around, and it appears stones have been hit a number of times with machinery. Stones should be pieced back together and reset. Farmer should be informed he is in violation of IC 14-21-1-26.5 which prohibits disturbing the ground within 100 feet of a cemetery without filing a development plan with DNR. IC 14-21-1-24 specifically includes disturbing the ground for agricultural purposes within IC 14-21-1-26.5. Thus, someone who farms within 100 feet of a cemetery commits a Class C misdemeanor. If a person disturbs human remains or grave markers while committing this offense (i.e. nicks the tombstones with a plow) he has committed a Class D felony. This statute should not be taken lightly.
