FIRST PLAQUE ON BRICK WALL READS:
"This is the original Town cemetery founded between 1838 and 1840. Allen Halderman, his wife Jane, and their children, came to North Manchester in 1838. One of their children, a daughter, died and there being no cemetery, Mr. Halderman set aside a tract of land to be used for this purpose. The Town was not incorporated and Mr. Halderman's heirs retained the title to the land, but people were permitted to select and use burial plots without charge. This created neglect in later years because descendants moved away and no governing agency had any authority to compel proper care. In 1955, the stones were removed because of the state of disrepair of this cemetery. Unfortunately, no official record of all the burials was ever made. The following list represents, to the best of our knowledge, the most complete record ever compiled." (There are six plaques mounted on the brick wall listing all of the names.)
The stones have mostly been destroyed, the ones that were still good were place in this wall.
