The St. Mark's Cemetery was abandoned several years ago. It had been vandilized over the years, stones were so badly destroyed that the city had to remove many of them. This monumnet is the only standing stone, there are two other ground markers to the left of this one. For researchers who may have had family buried in the St. Mark's or the New Methodist Cemeteries, you may be able to find their names in the Madison County Cemetery Volumes published by the Madison County Genealogy Society. Between the two cemeteries there were over 1500 burials. The remains of those buried there were suppose to be relocated to other cemeteries. St. Mark's Cemetery is located behind what is known as the Kirkpatrick Homes on Route 203 (Nameoki Rd), coming from the North of town you would turn right at the first street right after East 27th Street. It looks more like an entrance to an alley than street. At this time 9/2007 the Kirkpatrick Homes are being replaced with new construction.
