The earliest known burial in this cemetery was infant Thomas Lewis (Dec 1873) a first cousin of "Grant" Legg. There are several unmarked graves whose information was obtained from family records supplemented by death certificates. The grandfather, great grandmother, and great great grandmother of American musician Doyle Lawson are all buried here.
The nearby Witt-Huff Cemetery was sometimes called the "Polk Legg" or "JKP Legg" Cemetery because many Leggs were buried there including James Knox Polk and Malinda Barker Legg (Grant Legg's parents) and 3 of their daughters (sisters of Grant Legg) who had married Witts, Huffs and Morris's. That particular cemetery location was originally part of Malinda Barker Legg's inheritance where the Legg and Barker properties adjoined. That is the reason JKP & Malinda Barker Legg were buried there instead of here in the Grant Legg Cemetery.
Several infants were buried in this cemetery and there are several graves without markers. If anyone has created a memorial in this cemetery that they no longer wish to maintain I will be glad to take it as this is my ancestors family cemetery. Stephen Smith #46832456.
Finally, this is not a perpetual care cemetery and must therefore rely on charitable donations for maintenance and upkeep.
