The cemetery was deeded to the inhabitants of Morristown on June 1809 by Nathaniel Morse. It was 'part of Lot No 4 in the 2nd division lying on road that leads from Four Corners to Elmore'.
In 1810 Daniel Sumner, the first man to die of the dreaded smallpox, was interred in the cemetery. Other early inhabitants buried there are: Nathan Gates, Jr. family, the Brighams, the Earls and the Revolutionary soldier, Josiah Roberts.
