The present St. Michael's Manor house was probably built by James L. Richardson about 1805. There is a brick in the house, formerly in a cornerstone, which says, J.L.R. 1805. Other families who have owned the house are the Langleys, the Milburns, the Williamson Smiths, and the Visek's. Its present owners, Capt. and Mrs. Joseph L. Dick, purchased it in 1982. Nine graves of the Richardson family are buried in a graveyard in the woods, some 150 yards north of the manor, enclosed with a wrought-iron fence. James Richardson died in 1824. Other graves in the wrought iron fence enclosure bear markers dating from 1821 to 1866. It is rumored that the manor was used as a field headquarters for the Union army during the Civil war.
Individuals wishing to visit this cemetery should first contact Mr. Joseph Dick beforehand at (301) 872-4025 or by email at [email protected]. Access through the Manor to a pathway into the adjoining woods is the easiest way to get to the cemetery. This requires an electric fence to be turned off prior to crossing it. So, please call in advance to schedule your visit.
