Interred here is a Revolutionary War soldier, Civil War soldiers, a freed slave named Black Wes and a Native American that befriended the family. This information was passed down from generation to generation in the family.
Descendants of the original land owner, John Hutson, Sr., have been laid to rest here.
In 1999, the oldest living family member said this cemetery, to family and locals, was commonly referred to as "Irwins Chapel" because of it's close proximity to Irwins Chapel Church. Many family death certificates list "Irwins Chapel" as the place of burial.
Some of the burials here are unproven with documentation but the information has been passed down through family members that they are interred here.
The original size of the cemetery was said to be 100 feet by 100 feet. Elderly family members reported that the cemetery is full with graves with some of those graves being "stacked". Extensive probing in the cemetery has proven this "full" theory. This cemetery, with the size listed, has the potential of having approximately 250-300 burials. As stated previously, some of the burials are said to be "stacked".
The farmers have taken their toll on its integrity over the years, plowing in on it, hooking into graves with equipment and plowing over the original lane that led from the road to the cemetery. Sadly, it has become just another little cemetery in the middle of a field.
