this anothe picture of the marking for this cemetery as there is a large road construction project underway. The site is unkept, and has been neglected for many, many years.

At the present time, this is the only marker of this cemetery. The City of Alexandria has designed and approved to purchase the adjoining gas Station and commerical building to be part of a park as a memorial to those interred at this site. Additional information can be found about the history, the current status and the plans for this cemetery

As of January 2014, Freedmen's Cemetery is undergoing restoration. The central sculpture has been installed. This view of the sculpture, between stone walls under construction, was taken from the south side of the site.

From A Brief History of Alexandria's Freed People and of Freedmen's Cemetery http://www.freedmenscemetery.org/Dennee_Pages/history_of_freedmens.htm: This photograph may be the only extant image of Freedmen's Cemetery. Taken in 1899, it depicts an Alexandria Brick Company wagon. Freedmen's Cemetery is atop the hill in the background. The brick manufacturer was located to the southwest of the cemetery, and removed clay from the west slope of the hill, reportedly exposing some graves in the early 1890s.
