Mosgrove Cemetery
Piatt County, Illinois, USA
According to a previous researcher, there were some 20 (or more) tombstones at one time. In late 1985, Eagle Scout candidate Scott Dempsey undertook a cemetery restoration as his Eagle Scout project. His project work included clearing weeds and trees that had overgrown the cemetery, tombstones and footstones dug up and reset, cracked tombstone were repaired, and several had metal strapping placed around them for more stability, and a split rail fence installed around the plot. A short history of the cemetery was encased in Plexiglas case.
Dempsey had assistance from Glenna Mosgrove, the widow of John Mosgrove's grandson, Charles A. Mosgrove. Glenna Mosgrove had the family Bible and knowledge about the cemetery to help guide Dempsey's work. Her husband and a great-grandson, Charles M. Mosgrove, had supervised the construction of a memorial placed at the cemetery in 1964. That memorial consisted of several flint pieces carved and set to make around millstone bound by an iron strap and set atop a base. John Mosgrove was a prominent pioneer in the early history of Sagaman Township, and was a miller and saw mill operator.
