Add PhotosBeginning in the decade of the 1830's, a primitive Baptist Church built of logs was established and stood for many years until it burned around the year 1900. The property for the Church and Carver Church Graveyard was originally William E. Carver land he purchased from the government northeast of Bethea Lake in the Wellborn, Florida area. The total land area allocated for the Church and cemetery was two and one half acres, however, presently the actual size of the graveyard is approximately one half acre. The old Carver homestead was located northwest of the Church and cemetery. The only remains of the old homestead are carved stones which lined the sides of the sandy road leading up to the main house. Due to county changes through the years the cemetery is located one hundred fifty yards into Columbia County, Florida.
The cemetery is in severe danger of being reclaimed by the wilderness from which it was carved out of so many years ago. One of the marked graves belongs to a Confederate Civil War soldier. If anyone knows how to save this cemetery, please contact me.
Since the land to get to the cemetery is owned by one person and the land the cemetery is on is owned by another person, permission must be granted before entering. Contact me.
Please note:
I have posted all the existing headstone photos in this cemetery. All other graves are unmarked. Due to the age and neglect of this cemetery, most headstones are gone.
