In spring of 1866, the first settlers came from Bohemia to the Bechyn area. First mass was celebrated in 1868. By 1873, 20 families had arrived from Bechyne, Bohemia. The first mass was offered by a Czech priest in 1879 at the Jacob Krell home. In 1880 Jacob Krell and John Swoboda donated land for the construction of a church. Original parish membership included 27 families, "Articles Of Incorporation" were signed on June 12, 1896. In 1908 Fr. Wenceslaus Skluzacek was appointed first resident pastor. The present church pictured was built in 1915. Twenty-eight priests served throughout the 113 year history of St. Mary's parish. At the time of consolidation 1n 1992 with St. Aloysius in Olivia, there are 158 members.
