In July 1967, when Sayers Dam was constructed, the bodies in the lower part of Sand Hill were removed and reinterred in the relocated Schenck Cemetery. They may be found in Section 1 row 4 and Section 2 row 6.
Sand Hill Cemetery was neglected for many years and allowed to grow up in trees and brush. Greg Lucas did an Eagle Scout service project in 1986 which reclaimed the cemetery from brush. Yearly maintenance is now being done. However, it is recommended that visits be made in the Spring or after frost in the Fall. In Summer, lilies cover the back half of the cemetery in a solid mat making it difficult to see where to step.
Directions:
Take the I-80 exit for Milesburg onto Route 150. Travel toward Lock Haven for 4.5 miles. Turn right at the sign: Upper Green's Run boat launch.
Go 0.1 mile on this road. Turn left on the one-lane road. The cemetery is a short distance on your right. N 41 degrees 0.087 and West 77 degrees 41.366.
