Add PhotosLocated 4 miles east of Decaturville, turn at W. E. Turpin's house, go to the region known as "the colon" [Coalings] Surveyed by Ms Alexander in 1976. She noted "at least 24 rocks with no names." In 1975, I [Ms Alexander] interviewed Mrs. Lucy Williams, age 82 and Mrs. Ella Kindle, age 92. Both have always lived in this community. They state that a Jim Gilbert was buried here, who fought in the Civil War — he burned to death and Mrs. Wallace went to the funeral. She thinks she can identify his grave. Mr. Willie Warren was interviewed in 1995 and he agrees that Jim Gilbert was buried here and was a CSA soldier and burned to death. Since indexing this graveyard, Mrs. C. C. Alexander (Bessie Pratt) of Scotts Hill has erected a CSA marker for her grandfather Elisra Downey, Pvt. A Co. 51st Con. Inf.(1977). It is very difficult to get to this graveyard. We used a four-wheel drive. It was a joy to help Bess in securing the tombstone for her grandfather, who placed it the next day after it arrived. Thanks to Fred Smith Alexander for serving as Chauffeur and Becky Sims who went along to help index. (some info from the TNGen.Web site)
