Conforming to Chinese tradition, the cemetery is situated on sloping land with a view with all graves facing the ocean. Traditional Taoist observances are held annually in the Spring and Fall to honor the Tutelary Earth God (Tu Ti Lung Sun), the First Ancestor (Hsin Yen) of the cemetery, as well as individual ancestors of association members.
The pavilion was remodeled by Chinese artisans from Kwangtung, China, and dedicated on March 26, 1994, in conjunction with the Hawaii-Chinese Bi-Centennial Anniversary. The centerpiece of the pavilion building is the roofline done in a traditional "wings in flight" design, replete with finely detailed porcelain figures of mythical animals.
The pavilion stands as a lasting testament and legacy of the suffering and hardships endured by the Chinese immigrants who came to Hawaii in search of a better life. Their untold sacrifices, belief in Confucian morals and filial piety have contributed greatly to the success of future generations in Hawaii.
