ROMNEY YANCEY DIED LAST SUNDAY

** Following Two Weeks' Illness, a LaBelle Young Man and Assistant Railroad Agent Passes On. **

Romney Wilson Yancey, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Yancey was stricken by illness three weeks ago and after suffering two weeks, death came to his relief after all that loving hands and medical skill could do to bring him back to health had failed. As a last resort he was taken to Blessing hospital, Quincy, where he continued to sink until the end came on Sunday morning [sic], April 10, just as a new day was being ushered in. He was 37 years old on February 18, being born in LaBelle, where he has resided all of his life with the exception of a few months when he was employed in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and on several occasions when he was substituting as telegrapher at various stations on the O. K. road. He has been identified with railroads since reaching young manhood and at the time of his death was assistant agent at this place.

An affliction of an ear has given much trouble for several years and as his hearing was affected it proved a handicap in his work. This affliction suddenly grew worse three weeks ago and was the cause of his death.

He was a quiet, unostentatious young man, attending strictly to his own business and was highly respected by his acquaintances in LaBelle as well as his associates in railroad circles and is greatly missed by all, it being hard for his friends to realize that he has gone, never to return to the post he admirably filled on earth.

He leaves to mourn their loss a father and mother, and one sister, Mrs. P. F. Cole, of Springfield, this state, and one brother, Lyman of Quincy. A sister, Roberta [ed: Bertha], passed away a number of years ago.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church in this place, Tuesday, April 12, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. W. E. Akers, pastor of the Central Methodist church, the Masonic order, of which he was an honored member, having charge. Burial took place in LaBelle cemetery.
