Bio

Find a Grave is NOT a competition. It is a website designed to help people find their deceased ancestors. Please remember this when using the site.

When suggesting an edit please follow these instructions, not just for me, but for everyone;

1) When suggesting a simple edit, (Name Changes, Dates, Places, Family Members, etc.) please use the Suggest Edits Tab and fill out what you would like it to be. It is easier for me (and other members) to accept that way.

2) When suggesting a Bio Change, also go into the Suggest Edits Tab and click "Suggest other corrections" Write "Bio Change:" and then type what you would like the bio to be. Be sure to specify whether or not you like the Bio I have added, (if any) as I can delete that. If nothing is specified, I'll assume you like what I have added and I will keep it there.

3) To ask for a transfer, also go into the Suggest Edits Tab and click "Suggest other corrections." From there, just type in the words "Transfer Please" and then write your relation to the person.

I will transfer most memorials. If you ask for a transfer for someone I am not related to, I'll give it to you. If you ask for a transfer of someone I am related to, please add your relation so I can see if you are a closer relative than I am. (I know that you don't know who I am related to or not related to, so to be safe, please add your relation anyway.)

I believe that the virtual flowers are here to show the deceased some love, respect, and gratitude for helping shape the world into what it is today. Therefore, please don't leave edits in the flowers. It seems disrespectful. If you want an edit just follow the steps.

You may use any photo I use. It doesn't matter the context, you may use it. You don't have to message me to ask, and you don't have to put my name on anything. What is the point of using FindAGrave if you want credit for everything you do? Isn't the point of the website to HELP people?

Please take into account that when photographing newer graves, there may be a spot for a living spouse or child. If no death date is present, please do not add that person. It would be adding a living person to an online database for the deceased. Sometimes, though, the "living" person on the stone may actually be deceased and buried somewhere else or the inscription was not updated. If you care so much to go the extra mile, research that person and see if there is a recent obituary or announcement.

Gravestones deteriorate ALL the time. If you look at the Hale Index (Connecticut), you'll see that some of the stones seen then aren't here anymore. And all that history took 90 years to crumble. Imagine how little evidence of these stones there will be in another 90 years. That is why I take as many pictures as I can. Your picture may be the only surviving picture of the stone. In another 90 years, people will be thanking you.

I mean no disrespect when adding flowers and memorials into the database. I hope the entering helps others find long lost family members, and flowers give the person some love from a stranger. I am not a member who declines edits for linking family members. I believe it to be a wonderful function and will be happy to accept.

Please be mindful when sending edits - some will just accept - be sure everything is accurate! I have made edit mistakes too. Don't feel discouraged. Next time, just double-check sources.

Stay Safe,
Tom
