Bio

I am named for my great-grandmother, Martha Ann Fort Berryman, who, with her husband Frederick Sr. Berryman & two of her children, Sarah "Sally" Ann Berryman & Allen Berryman, helped raise my father, Hugh Barclay Berryman. The Berryman Family Cemetery holds my blood & my bones. From Uncle Allen willing the Berryman Homeplace to his nephew Hugh, in 1926, until his death, my father Hugh maintained the Vesta, Texas, site on McKim Creek, Sabine Co., the Berryman Homeplace large white dog-trot and surveyed and fenced the Berryman Family Cemetery. I inherited Vesta, but due to illness in 1990s, conveyed it to my beloved 1st cousin Glen Berryman, son of Hugh's brother Elmer.
I've spent 40+ years as a cultural anthropologist, working in field history & educational museums, including the Institute of Texan Cultures at UT San Antonio, the Texas Historical Commission in Austin, and in grant projects through Projects in Texas Cultures & Histories. I have an MA in Anthropology, and have published work on dog trot vernacular architecture in East Texas.
