FOR MY MOTHER

My Mother loved history and always drug us kids around to all historical places that we came across in our travels. She especially loved cemeteries. She would say that the dead were important because, without them, the world wouldn't be what it is today. She would always tell us stories about family members we came across in the cemeteries we visited in North Carolina. I only wish I could remember those stories.

Sadly, my Mother passed away in 2017 and her Mother in 2010. The family was very important to both of them. Thankfully, I was given the responsibility of continuing and taking care of the family Bible which is full of information proven useful to my research.

Even more saddening is that while out taking hundreds of pictures of others' headstones, I get to see who does and who does not get visited. So many grave sites are just plain disappearing (sinking, broken or plain unreadable) and, I think, that's why I am trying to document as many as I can so that they will never truly be lost. It wears heavy on my soul to think that many are already buried. Perpetual care really needs an overhaul!

If anyone knows of any volunteer organizations that go around to work on cemeteries, please point me in their direction. I would truly love to be a part of any restoration projects that work to save our past. [email protected].

Profile picture credit goes to my very special daughter Lyndsay. Such a beautiful photo taken here in Okeechobee, FL.

Thank you to ALL of the volunteers that contribute to preserving the past. ;)
