For years I wondered why people were so fascinated with genealogy.

After my dad died I was cleaning out the house and found boxes and boxes of old pictures. A couple of the pictures had partial names on them; my grandfather as a boy and my great grandmother as a young woman. Suddenly, I was hooked. I started wondering where I had come from and who all of the people in the pictures were. What a wonderful puzzle my parents left for me.

I worked with the pictures for a few months and managed to figure out quite a bit, but then I had to put it aside and deal with life.

Earlier this year things finally settled down and I got the genealogy itch again. I got on ancestry.com, created a tree and started populating with people and pictures. As I was researching I found several of my family members on Find A Grave. I went to a family reunion for my father's side of the family and then went to the cemetery where my grand parents were buried, which I had discovered on Find A Grave.

I'm researching Fergusons and Heltons from Washington County, Virginia and Knicelys, Sauers, Phillips, and McDonalds from Coshocton and Muskingum counties in Ohio.

I enjoy "cemetery crawling", looking for family members. I joined Find a Grave to add my family members and make sure they are documented, but I'll check outstanding photo requests for cemeteries that I'm planning to visit anyway and see if I can help someone else out.

If anyone would like to use any of the pictures that I post, please feel free.
